Comedians help with Legal aid

Mark Thomas An amazing line-up of comedians is attempting to force the government to re-open the Serious Fraud Office’s investigation into fraud at BAE.

Russell Brand, Mark Thomas, Omid Djalili, Mark Steel, Ed Byrne, Josie Long, Robin Ince, Stewart Lee, plus others to be announced will hold a fund-raising benefit at Hammersmith Apollo on Sunday 23rd September.

In 2006 the SFO dropped its investigation into the allegations of bribery by BAE Systems in its dealings with Saudi Arabia. The investigation was cancelled due to Saudi government pressure.

The Corner House and Campaign Against Arms Trade argue that the SFO’s decision was unlawful, not least because it broke international anti-bribery laws to which the UK is a signatory. The two groups are seeking a Judicial Review of the SFO’s actions, challenging the government to reopen the investigation, to do this they have to take them to court. This benefit will help pay for the court costs.
