Iain Lee’s Shindiggery Episode 5

September 1, 2007 – 3:50 pm | by Peekay

Iain LeeIain Lee continues his mildly relentless move up the podcast chart with the fifth proper Shindiggery episode (iTunes link).

Shindiggery seems to be settling into the sort of regularity that a podcast needs, to be something that you look forward to every week or month. And it is still early days but it is getting to be like that, if only to hear the Shindiggery theme tune (a new version of which appears at the end of this podcast).

At 20 minutes this is a little shorter than you might have wanted, but with the addition of a short mid-week episode it adds up quite nicely.

One of the problems with the podcast at the moment is that a fair amount of it is a bit of an in-joke. If you listen to Lee’s LBC radio show you will be aware of the cast of characters who frequent the show, and that helps to set-up some of the characters/jokes better. As a newbie though these characters could be difficult to warm to, though this is likely to change over time as everything beds down.

The “character” on this show is Vinny, one of the regular callers to Lee’s show. He appears in a number of the skits, and his nervous delivery works well with the material.

The material itself is still of varying quality, the “Our Tune” parody is a little gem, as is the prank phonecall, while the “married to Vinny” sketch and “agent answerphone message” creak a little.

Shindiggery is coming together nicely, building its world, and experimenting in those boundaries. Though letting Vinny sing at the end of the show should never turn into a regular feature!!
