Marceau the Mime dies

Marcel MarceauMarcel Marceau, the legendary Mime artist, has died aged 84, it was announced on French radio yesterday.

Marceau, with his character of Bip the clown, with white face paint and battered hat topped with a red flower, became the name synonymous with Mime. Marceau said his biggest inspirations were from the silent film era, legends such as Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton but also the fast-talking and fast-falling Marx brothers.

Marceau continued performing his mime well into his old age.

There are no reports yet as to his final words/mime.
