Dangerfields Widow Sues
The widow of US comic legend Rodney Dangerfield is suing over a video of the legendary star’s final years.
According to reports on the BBC website, Joan Dangerfield has filed a lawsuit to stop the airing of the videotape that she insists was never intended for public consumption.
The suit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, is against former friend David Permut, who apparently has 200 hours of footage, which he intends to edit and show at next year’s Sundance Film Festival.
This footage was shot at the late comedian’s home and has been declared in the lawsuit as “highly private, extremely sensitive and very personal”.
Dangerfield, who starred in such classic comedy films as Caddyshack opposite Bill Murray and Chevy Chase, died in October 2004 at the age of 82 and a lot of the footage shows the comedian in ill health and “was never intended to be made available for viewing by the public”.
