Knock2Bag, 19th March 2008
April 6, 2008 – 9:57 pm | by Peekay
Knock2Bag is a monthly comedy night a stones throw away from the Hammersmith & City Shepherd’s Bush station. It’s also just a short walk from the Central line station, but considering there ain’t no trains stopping there, that’s not a lot of use right now.
But when TFL finish up with their station redevelopment I can see this newish comedy club becoming an even bigger hit.
Based in a nicely done out basement bar, the organisers have not only made sure that the room feels quite cosy, but also that the focus really is on the comedy. This is mostly achieved with a good and eclectic line-up.
Tonight’s MC Jarred Christmas has the right sort of big personality, commanding presence and quick-thinking ability to keep things rolling up to and between acts.
And a good selection of acts they were – of particular note were Henning Wehn, Miriam Elia and headliner Tim Key. Henning Wehn calls himself The German Comedy Ambassador to The United Kingdom, and while the comedy is fairly restricted by that, it is good quality, big laughs material.
Miriam Elia is the relative newcomer to the circuit, though is already making her mark, winning the BBC New Comedy awards in 2007. And rightly so, her material is sparking with wit and intelligence, and her delivery and appearance gel together beautifully to produce a sullen Jewish female Tony Hancock.
Tim Key is a twisted genius – his act is difficult to describe, but is probably best seen as a cross between Dylan Moran times two and a poetic Tommy Cooper. Make sense? Probably not but then you better go see him yourself.
Knock2Bag is a really good comedy night, in a nice venue, with the option of good food. Get along to the next show:
