Josie Long, Trying is Good, DVD review

Josie Long stands out on the comedy circuit as one of the few feel-good comedians, someone who doesn’t feel she has to be abusive or revel in stories of her alcohol ridden days and nights.

Long wants to share her joy at the world, like when she gets excited by people who are prepared to put the effort in constructing elaborate fancy-dress.  This performance does start off as Josie talking about how she does try to a better person, but turns more into focusing on these things that she finds joyous.

One of the longer pieces of the show sees Josie tell the tale of a wheat-free bread she adored while in Australia. With her friend she decides to make a pilgrimage to the bakery to try and meet the man behind it whose grumpy face appeared on every loaf package.

Despite being a tad too long, unfortunately it hits the area where your concentration can drop due to the length, it is still a fun, uplifting show from a talented young comedian.
