“Elizabeth and Raleigh: Late But Live” goes national

Elizabeth and RaleighThe new comedy by Stewart Lee, “Elizabeth and Raleigh: Late But Live”, has embarked on a national tour this September, fresh from its acclaimed premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The show follows the format of 2007′s hit show “Johnson and Boswell: Late But Live”, with historical figures returning from the past, with the aim of revising a modern audience’s view of their legacy.

This time the team of writer Stewart Lee, performers Miles Jupp and Simon Munnery, and director Owen Lewis have revived the wittiest, wisest and most unforgiving of English Queens. Her Majesty is introduced by great Elizabethan potato hero and would-be suitor, Sir Walter Raleigh. He is in love with Elizabeth, the spiritual embodiment of England, but will he end up in her bed, or will he lose his head? Potatoes, tobacco, Elizabethan dance, cross-dressing, xenophobia and irreverent comedy flow as Sir Walter attempts to woo the Queen.
